Capgemini UK recognises that the transition from an extended career break back into the workplace can be challenging and so launched the Return@Capgemini Programme in 2017.

The nature of having been out of the workplace for a time is that confidence levels can be negatively affected and the recruitment team at Capgemini was keen to use Meet & Engage live group chat to host an online forum to make it easy for potential candidates to bring their questions about the Returners programme.

 

Engaging with 63 people in just a couple of hours, at the same time as enhancing the candidate experience, was an excellent use of recruitment team time!

Capgemini scheduled two chats on the Meet & Engage live chat platform on International Women’s Day. The focus of the first chat, Talk to a Returner, was to give an opportunity for participants to hear from, and chat to, an existing member of the team, Sara, who had recently returned to work following a break. The second chat covered Tips and Hints on Returning to Work. In total, the live group chat events had 63 candidates who registered.

During the chats, the Capgemini team were able to share interesting content in the form of videos and infographics, helping to outline the positive welcome and mentoring support available for Returners. Sara prepared a short informal video to introduce herself and encourage the audience to ask their questions.

 

Having Sara on board to offer insight into the Return@Capgemini programme meant that we were able to strengthen the impact of our messaging as well as identify candidates who we would like to follow up with.

What followed was a really helpful Q&A session, with strong potential candidates engaging with questions during both chats. Themes of confidence, skill levels, flexible working, work locations and mentoring provision were all explored and the live-poll function on the Meet & Engage platform allowed the team to find out how the confidence levels of those attending had developed during the course of the chats.

On a scale of 1-10, people intitially ranked their confidence about returning to work from 1-5, but this had changed significantly by the end to 5-10. Some of those attending didn’t actively ask questions, but remained engaged throughout and in the closing stages expressed gratitude to the team for hosting the chats.

In the feedback that was gathered afterwards, attendees commented that there was enormous value in being able to see answers to others‘ questions that they themselves may not have thought of asking and were particularly interested in the views and experiences of Sara, who was perceived as being just a few steps ahead of them, but within reach on the career path.

 

Group Chat enabled us to engage with our potential candidates for the Return programme in an informal but informative way and those who attended were able to get a much better feel for Capgemini and what we can offer them.

The Meet & Engage platform facilitated an opportunity for potential candidates to observe, ask questions, and gain useful additional insight – and for the recruitment team to convey their message, encourage engagement and move interested candidates further down the funnel towards application. After the chats, the transcripts were then available to the team, to further engage candidates, for useful bite-size quotes for social media and as a really valuable temperature-check to inform the recruitment team.
